Something New

Well its been a while since i have actually got out again in me kayak this is due to wierd work hours and looking after baby.

Things will get easier im sure but in the mean time i am getting prepared i have just bought a new truck and selling my beloved VW Bug as she was to small but i now have a chevvy which is plenty big enough for kayaks.

I have also heard we have new places to paddle from another boat ramp near bear island which we need to transport the kayaks down there first ( oh lucky i got a truck now) I have heard its an amazing paddle very quiet from traffic but very noisy from wildlife.

I will post more when we decide a date with sunset bay kayaks and get out paddling.

Full Moon Paddle

First day of spring and we have a full moon paddle, the girls from Salano Magazine & Friends booked up for this paddle, we set out at 6pm a calm evening not to cold but they came prepared with beenies and jackets.

We set off on a slow pace towards Peytonia Slough watching for any signs of wildlife as the sun begins to hide behind the hills. Wasn’t much to see for the first day of spring the birds were flying in sequence a flock flew over head of about 30, I wasn’t sure what they were so I guess I need to get a bird book and know these things. The weather had changed and we was all feeling the cold then it was decided that we should turn back and watch the moon rise whilst we paddled back. The sky was very clear so we have a very good view of the moon rising.

It was fun meeting the girls from Salano Magazine & Friends who are just finding out about kayaking we hope to see you again soon

Fishing interest

I have been told by Sunset Bay Kayaks that people have been asking about the fishing from kayaks, I would like to meet others that are interested in fishing so those who are interested email me and see if we can get some trips going.

1st Paddle of 2008

Weather was great, slight breeze and very quiet. I went out for a paddle with Trish from Sunset Bay Kayaks Sunday afternoon we left about 3pm from the shop. We decided to explore some unknown slough’s, We start to paddle up Peytonia Slough come across a guy fishing and he shouted out there was a girl stuck on the other side or the waterway, she went for a walk and the tide came in and found herself stuck. So we paddled up the very small slough and made her clamber onto the front of the kayak and paddled her over to the other side safely. We then carried on paddling and exploring other sloughs to find out what they have hidden. we got stuck in a few having to do about a 30 point turn to get the kayaks turned around so we could get out.

Heres one of Trish doing a bit of off road kayaking.

Trish getting stuck down a slough off of peytonia

After getting out of that one we explored a few more and after a good hour we come across a delightful little slough that seemed to go on for miles we did not find the end but thats for another day. What we did find were a couple of herings, ducks, wrens so out came the camera and we started a very slow quiet paddle to get some photos, it was a task but it was fun and this little slough will be one of the photography kayak paddles for the spring/summer months, we think this will be full of little pleasures for those who would like to go out on either photography paddle or the nature tours.

2 photos one of the herring and the other 2 ducks trying to get away from us

Hope to see you soon out in Suisun

Hello Kayakers

I have launched a kayaking blog today to keep logs of paddles I have with others and with Susnet Bay Kayaks, I will be taking my camera every time I go out so expect photos along the way.

Anyone interested in a paddle just give me a quick email and see if we can arrange something.
